At the Book Arts Lab, Carleton University, 1125 Colonel By Drive, Ottawa, ON, K1S 5B6

This workshop is taught using complete traditional methods. Orihon, historic precursor to modern books, is made with an accordion-folded structure, also known as a ‘concertina’ binding. Senpuyo is an adhesive binding that results in a structure often known as the butterfly binding.

Suitable for beginners and all experience levels.

Instructor

Stuart Hill has studied bookbinding under the guidance of Betsy Palmer Eldridge, Don Taylor, Dan Mezza, Karin Scheper, Rose Newlove along with many others. With a background in engineering and architecture, his keen interest is in the discovery of book structures…with a focus on how they are built and why certain techniques were used. Stuart is also the owner of the Canadian bookbinding supply company, George Hill & Co.

Participant-requested cancellations will be accepted up to 3 days prior to the published cut-off date for registration and will be subject to a 10% cancellation fee (a minimum of $5). After that, the full fee will be forfeited. In the event of the workshop being cancelled by CBBAG, the workshop fee will be fully refunded.
