Sunday to Friday, September 16 to 21, 2018 (6 days)
This intensive 6-day core course will teach the student all the fundamentals required for finishing on leather. Topics covered include: types of leather; tanning processes; and the best leather to use for tooling. All tools will be used including rolls, palettes, decorative tools, gouges, handle lettering, typeholder, with the care for each of these tools discussed. Sources of heat and how that heat effects tooling will be practiced and the student will learn the Cadence count method. Each step in tooling requires practice and skill, both of which you will gain in the 6 days. Blind tooling and gold tooling will be done. Pattern drawing and tracing will be touched on. Darkening, burnishing, glair, gold cushion/gold knife, spine titling will also be covered. Inlays and onlays will be done on plackettes for practice as well.

Prerequisite: Experience with leather paring encouraged
