The Ottawa Valley Chapter hosted the 2018 Books Arts Show and Sale on the twelfth of May at the Glebe Community Centre in Ottawa. It was the culmination of months of planning by Spike Minogue, the event organizer. This year the event drew a fine collection of artists and suppliers from across Ontario and Quebec, who occupied the splendid 104-year-old palladium styled community centre structure.
Spike organized a fine group of volunteers to arrive early on the Saturday morning to set up the venue and to assist the vendors to move their materiel into the hall. The refreshments committee had an urn of coffee on and a few nibbles ready for the vendors once they had settled in. When the doors opened to the public at 10 a.m., everything was resplendent and ready for the public review.
The number of visitors did seem down as compared to previous years, but this was likely due to the spectacular weather that weekend, plus the many varied activities going on in and around the city. That said, the visitors that did attend the event were treated to a wonderful assortment book arts related wares to view and buy.
The day ended at 4 p.m., at which time all was packed up and put away for another year. All in all, it was another great event. A hearty thank you to all the vendors and volunteers.
