Note: Though the due date has passed, we are still accepting submissions for our online database, but we cannot guaranty that the works will be included in our first online exhibit.

To commemorate our 10^th anniversary, and celebrate who we are and what we do, we invite you to submit works related to the Book Arts for our first online exhibition. This may include bookbinding, calligraphy, hand-made paper, marbled paper, letterpress, wood engraving and other prints, artists’ books, conservation or archival work, even essays on the subject. The selected works will be entered in a database, making them discoverable in a variety of ways for as long as the site is made available. A committee of peers will review each submission to insure quality. The goal of this project is to promote the book arts and reach different audiences.

Submit the following material by October 10, 2016

Up to 3 works created in the past 10 years (2006-2016) and no more than 3 images (or text) per work. The images must be of good quality and their size at least 1024 pixels on the long side regardless of the resolution, and preferably in Jpeg format. Texts can be submitted in Word or PDF formats.
A detailed description of each work, including title (can be descriptive), date created, techniques and/or materials used, and size. You may also include a description, if necessary. This can be provided in a Word, txt or PDF document, or in the message body of your email.
A short statement (approx. 100 to 250 words), describing your involvement in the book arts (may include CBBAG Ottawa Valley Chapter), and a bit about yourself. Be creative! This can be provided in a Word, txt or PDF document, or in the message body of your email.

Send the material to cbbagottawa@cbbag.ca and make sure to add your full name, the town where you live, and if you are a CBBAG member, as well as a phone number if it is easier to reach you that way. If you prefer to submit the material on a disc or USB stick, and the text in print, contact us to make arrangements to deliver the material to a representative of the organizing committee.

All book lovers can explore the range of fine handcrafted products being created and will have the opportunity to purchase unique treasures or to start on a new creative journey of their own. The Book Arts Show and Sale is also an opportunity for book artists and bookbinders to meet others working in the related disciplines and to discover new techniques, methods, or materials. Find out about the wonderful CBBAG workshops offered in the Ottawa area and all across Canada. We offer courses in professional bookbinding techniques as well as fun one-day workshops to get your creative juices flowing.

This year’s event presents a wide variety of work both for exhibit and for sale, including one-of-a-kind artist books, letterpress broadsides and publications, artists’ books, and bookbinding supplies. Twice Upon a Time will also be on site to promote their cause and collect cash donations and new or nearly new children’s books.

Exhibitors

The Ottawa Valley Chapter of the Canadian Bookbinders and Book Artists Guild is offering an opportunity for bookbinders, book artists, papermakers, paper decorators, calligraphers, printers, book sellers, and book arts suppliers to exhibit their work and meet with and sell to CBBAG members and the public. Pre-registration is required for exhibitors.

L’événement Expo-vente Arts du livre est aussi une occasion pour que les artistes du livres et les relieurs rencontrent d’autres artisans travaillant dans des disciplines connexes. C’est le temps de découvrir de nouvelles techniques, des approches inusitées et de se procurer du matériel d’artiste. Renseignez-vous sur les incroyables ateliers offerts par CBBAG dans la région d’Ottawa et à travers le Canada. Nous offrons des cours de reliure professionnelle ainsi que des ateliers d’une journée qui vont raviver vos fibres créatrices.

La foire de cette année présente un large éventail d’œuvres en exposition et à vendre. Vous y trouverez des livres d’artiste originaux, des feuillets et des livres imprimés de manière artisanale, des publications et du matériel spécialisé pour la reliure. Il était deux fois sera sur place pour promouvoir leur cause et accepter des dons en argent et de livres pour enfants neufs ou presque neufs.

Exposants

La section de la vallée de l’Ottaouais de la Guilde canadienne des relieurs et des artistes du livre (CBBAG) offre une occasion aux relieurs, artistes du livre, papetiers, décorateurs de papier, calligraphes, imprimeurs, libraires et vendeurs de matériel d’artiste pour exposer leurs œuvres, rencontrer et faire des ventes aux membres de CBBAG ainsi qu’avec le public. Une pré-inscription est requise pour les exposants.

CBBAG Ottawa 2016 Book Arts Show & Sale

BOOK ARTS SWAP MEET / L’ÉCHANGE D’ARTS DU LIVRE

An exhibition.
For the past eight years, members of the Ottawa Valley Chapter have participated in an annual book arts swap. To foster creativity, the techniques, themes, and rules vary from year-to-year. The exhibition showcases all 8 swap projects ranging from signatures to trading cards, with themes such as the seasons, and doors and windows.

On display in the foyer of the Shenkman Arts Centre, 245 Centrum Boulevard, Ottawa, Ontario, February 1-28, 2016, Monday to Sunday, 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., closed Monday, February 15.

Depuis les huit dernières années, les membres de la section de la vallée de l’Outaouais du Canadian Bookbinders and Book Artist Guild (La Guilde canadienne des relieurs et artistes de livre), ont participé à un échange d’arts du livre annuel. Afin de favoriser la créativité, les techniques, les thèmes et les règles varient chaque année. L’exposition présente les 8 projets d’échanges variant de cahiers aux cartes de collections, et de thèmes tels que les saisons, et les portes et fenêtres.

An exhibition of works, including paper, hand-bound books, boxes, hand printing, altered books and artists’ books by members of the Ottawa Valley Chapter of the Canadian Bookbinders and Book Artists Guild, hosted by the Shenkman Arts Centre, August 2-31, 2014.
Opening hours are from Monday to Friday, 7:45 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., closed 4 August.

Opening hours are from Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed 17-19 May and Saturdays in June.

The 2013 CBBAG Book Arts Show and Sale

The Show will provide many local artists with the opportunity to exhibit their explorations in the book arts. From the preservation of historic techniques to taking the book to a new level, book artists want you to see a book as a three-dimensional structure. The Book Arts Show and Sale provides a unique opportunity to meet these artists and discover the breadth of the book arts movement in Canada, including over 25 bookbinders, book artists, letterpress and fine press printers, printmakers, papermakers, paper marblers, calligraphers, book restoration artists and conservators, suppliers, and more.

This year’s event presents a wide variety of work both for exhibit and for sale, including one-of-a-kind artist books, letterpress broadsides and publications, livres d’artiste, and bookbinding supplies.

The Canadian Bookbinders and Book Artists Guild will feature talks, demonstrations and videos during the day. Topics cover wood engraving, heraldry, copyright law, and hot type.
